Amifloxacin (Win49375) ist ein fluoriertes Chinolon-Carbonsäure-Antibiotikum mit Aktivität gegen eine Vielzahl gramnegativer Organismen. Die MHKs für 90 % der Isolate repräsentativer Harnwegserreger betragen 0,125 µg/ml für Escherichia coli, 0,5 µg/ml für Klebsiella pneumoniae, 1,0 µg/ml für Proteus vulgaris, 0,5 µg/ml für Citrobacter freundii, 2,0 µg/ml für Pseudomonas aeruginosa und 0,5 µg/ml für Serratia marcescens [1].
Amifloxacin (Win49375) war ein wirksames Medikament gegen experimentelle Infektionen bei Mäusen, wenn es parenteral verabreicht wurde. Amifloxacin (Win49375) war bei oraler Verabreichung hochwirksam, mit 50 % effektiven Dosen, die innerhalb des zwei- bis dreifachen Bereichs derjenigen lagen, die mit parenteraler Medikation erreicht wurden [2].
