The green fluorescent fatty acid BODIPY FL C12 can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of various fluorescent phospholipids. Unlike fluorescent dyes such as pyrene, DPH, and NBD, BODIPY™ dyes are relatively insensitive to the environment and fluoresce in both water-soluble and lipid environments.
