Cardiogreen (Foxgreen) est un colorant tricarbocyanine iodé amphiphile (masse = 751,4 Da) qui peut être reconstitué dans des solutions aqueuses à pH 6,5. Il est chargé négativement et se lie aux protéines pour former des complexes fluorescents non covalents pouvant être utilisés dans la détection par fluorescence induite par laser à semi-conducteur en électrophorèse capillaire pour la détermination des protéines [1-3].
Cardiogreen peut être utilisé pour isoler plusieurs protéines marquées, y compris la protéine inoffensive du sang humain, la nucléase A, la transferrine et la cytochrome C. Utilisé par voie intraveineuse chez les patients, au sein des vaisseaux sanguins, le composé se lie aux protéines plasmatiques, confinant ainsi la majeure partie du médicament aux vaisseaux sanguins jusqu'à ce qu'il soit pris en charge par le foie et excrété dans la bile. Cardiogreen est également largement utilisé de manière non homologuée pour l'imagerie en temps réel lors de la chirurgie abdominale, de la chirurgie plastique, ainsi que pour le staging et le traitement oncologiques [4-7].
