Il est couramment utilisé pour la formation de micelles, de liposomes et d'autres types de membranes artificielles[1].1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-PC peut incorporer des protéines purifiées du dodécyl-β-D-maltopyranoside (DDM) pour former des micelles mixtes PC-DDM [2].Il peut former des bicouches phospholipidiques stables, qui sont utilisées pour étudier les changements structurels dans les membranes biologiques à composants multiples dans diverses conditions physiologiques [3]. 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-PC est également utilisé pour l'encapsulation de médicaments, de protéines et d'acides nucléiques [4].
