Clarithromycin-13C-d3 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of clarithromycin by GC- or LC-MS. Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic.1,2 It is active against pneumococci, Streptococcus, Listeria, and Corynebacterium. Clarithromycin is a group 2 agent with respect to its interaction with the cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoform 3A4, as it exhibits a lower affinity for CYP3A4 than does erythromycin .3,4 Formulations containing clarithromycin have been used in the treatment of bacterial infections and, when used in combination with other antibiotics, in the treatment of H. pylori.
