アンピシリン(Ampicillin (D-(-)-α-Aminobenzylpenicillin))は、広範囲のグラム陽性およびグラム陰性細菌に対して活性を持つ広域スペクトルのβ-ラクタム系抗生物質である。アンピシリンは、細菌の細胞壁形成に不可欠なトランスペプチダーゼの競争的阻害剤である。アンピシリンはペニシリン系に属し、呼吸器感染症、尿路感染症、髄膜炎、サルモネラ症、および心内膜炎など、さまざまな細菌感染症の予防および治療に使用されている。
In vitroでは、結腸直腸腺癌HT-29細胞にアンピシリン(10-100μM)を24-72時間処理すると、最も低い濃度(10μM)で細胞生存率が有意に減少したが、他の濃度では用量が増加するにつれて生存細胞の割合が増加した。金属耐性に誘導された黄色ブドウ球菌にアンピシリン(0-300μM)を24時間処理すると、カドミウム耐性株の成長が有意に抑制されたが、鉛耐性株の成長は抑制されなかった。アンピシリン処理により、細菌細胞と原子間力顕微鏡(AFM)チップ間で測定された接着力が増加し、グラム陽性細菌およびグラム陰性細菌の平均接着値がそれぞれ74%および34%増加した。
In vivoでは、アンピシリン(200 mg/kg)を一過性前脳虚血を持つマウスに腹腔内投与すると、海馬CA1領域の神経損傷が有意に減少し、グルタミン酸トランスポーター-1(GLT-1)のレベルが増加し、前脳虚血後のマトリックスメタロプロテイナーゼ(MMP)の活性が抑制された。
