2-Bromohexadecanoic acid은 지질 대사의 비선택성 억제제이며 단백질 S-palmitoylation의 일반 억제제이다. 2-Bromohexadecanoic acid은 모든 DHHC(Asp-His-His-Cys) 단백질의 팜리토일전전이 효소 활설을 직접적으로 그리고 되돌릴 수 없이 억제합니다[2]. 2-Bromohexadecanoic acid은 쥐 간염 바이러스(MHV-A59)의 복제를 강력하게 억제하고 주로 지질 입자를 특이적으로 파괴함으로써 이를 달성한다[3].
체외 실험에서 Hela 세포에 50μM의 2-Bromohexadecanoic acid을 1시간 미리 처리하여 TNFα+CHX 유도된 세포 피로토시스를 현저하게 억제했고 세포 조직사를 억제하지 않았고 젖산 탈수소효소 석방과 PI-양성 세포를 줄였다[4]. HepG2 세포에 75-150μM의 2-Bromohexadecanoic acid을 처리하여 패리마트(PA) 유도된 암간세포(CSC) 구체 형성을 현저하게 줄였고 세포 활성을 영향을 미치지 않았다[5]. Co-expressing diacylated GAP-43-YFP와 GalNAc-T-CFP를 공표현하는 CHO-K1 세포에 25, 50, 150μM의 2-Bromohexadecanoic acid을 처리하여 성장과 관련된 단백질-43(GAP-43)과 TGN-막의 결합을 현저하게 줄였다[6].
