Dimidium is a trypanocide.1,2 In vivo, dimidium (0.25-0.7 mg/kg) reduces parasite burden in T. congolense-infected mice.1 It also completely clears trypanosomes from the peripheral blood in zebu oxen naturally infected with T. congolense when administered intramuscularly at a dose of 0.75 mg/kg.2 Formulations containing dimidium have previously been used in the treatment of trypanosomiasis in cattle.
