Geranylgeranyl alcohol is a diterpenoid produced through the isoprenoid pathway. It can be phosphorylated to give geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate , a precursor for geranylgeranylation, a form of protein prenylation. GGPP is also an intermediate in biosynthetic pathways for isoprenoids, carotenoids, plant hormones, and antibiotics.
