Histatin 8 is a salivary antimicrobial peptide and proteolytic fragment of histatin 3 and histatin 5 .1 It is active against A. baumannii, including strains that are susceptible or resistant to colistin when used at a concentration of 32 µg/ml. Histatin 8 is also active against C. albicans and C. tropicalis (MICs = 1 and 5 mg/ml, respectively).2
